Tesla 2026 summer update: phone wrap uploads, smarter navigation, Grok commands and more

Tesla's 2026 summer update tightens the phone–car pairing: mobile custom-wrap uploads, more Grok commands, Self-Driving data, smarter navigation, Caraoke scoring, rear display lock, and a batch of media and UI improvements. For digital wrap users the key change is: with Tesla App 4.59.0+, choose a compliant PNG via Creations → Wrap → Upload. USB remains available. Availability may still depend on model, vehicle software, region and staged rollout.
Feature overview
More Grok commands & Self-Driving data
New Grok abilities Tesla lists include making calls, searching and playing music, adjusting climate, opening the glovebox, and answering vehicle questions — Grok is expanding from answering to operating. Exact commands vary by vehicle software, configuration, language and region. Self-Driving data also arrives in the phone app, extending an in-car-screen experience to the phone owners already use for charging, climate, location and controls.
Smarter navigation, Preferred Routes & Arrival Energy
Automatic Navigation from daily habits
Automatic Navigation can infer likely destinations from routines — useful for commutes and regular trips, though you should still verify destination and route before setting off.
Preferred Routes
'Fastest' isn't always 'best'. Familiar roads, reliable chargers and avoiding awkward junctions can matter more than a few minutes. Preferred Routes lets regular trips keep the routing you prefer.
Arrival Energy in the app
Arrival-charge controls on the phone let you plan destination charge before getting in — especially useful with uncertain charging, weather, elevation or destination power.
Caraoke scoring, rear display lock & small improvements
Caraoke now scores parked singing, saving high scores to your Tesla profile. Rear Display Lock lets the front row control rear-screen content — practical for families. Smaller additions:
•Search Superchargers by name
•Easier Apple Music queue management
•Adjusted Self-Driving visualisation
•In-car browser camera/microphone where supported
•New entry animations for new Model 3 and Model Y
Why phone wrap upload matters
Previously the official flow centred on USB: a Wraps folder in the root with PNGs inside. Tesla's custom-wraps repo, updated July 22, added the phone path: Tesla App v4.59.0+, Creations → Wrap → Upload. File rules did not loosen: PNG, 512×512 to 1024×1024 px, under 1 MB; filename max 30 characters, letters/numbers/underscores/hyphens/spaces only. The app holds up to 10 files and USB up to 10 — two independent official paths.
Phone upload solves the last transfer step, not the design problem: the image must still match the exact model UV template. The TeslaWrapskin editor selects the template, offers live 3D preview and exports a compliant PNG; it never signs into a Tesla account or sends files to the car. You download, then upload in the Tesla App.
Availability, staged rollout & sources
Tesla software rolls out in stages. An announced feature may not appear on every car immediately; hardware, model, market, language, app version and vehicle software all matter. This article is based on Tesla's official Summer Release 2026 X posts, the custom-wraps mobile-upload update and Tesla App support pages, cross-checked against Electrek's overview.
FAQ
Can a website upload a wrap directly to my Tesla?
No. The official flow is user-controlled: create or download a compliant PNG, save it to your phone, then select it in the Tesla App. TeslaWrapskin handles design, preview and export only.
Will USB upload be removed?
No. Tesla's official notes keep USB: Wraps folder in the root, up to 10 compliant PNGs, then Toybox → Paint Shop → Wraps in the car.
What should I do first?
Update the Tesla App, confirm the Wrap upload entry appears for your account and vehicle, then prepare one compliant PNG. Testing a single file first makes filename, size and template issues easiest to find.
